Rehab statistics are climbing in the United States. In 2009 alone, there were 23.5 million people who admitted to needing to be admitted into a rehab treatment center. Out of these 23.5 million people only 2.6 million people were able to receive treatment at a rehab that specialized in certain drugs. Another rehab statistic is 41.4% of all people admitted into a rehab facility were admitted for an alcohol addiction, 20% of admissions were for opiate or heroin addictions, and 17% of admissions were for marijuana addictions. The top five addictions people were admitted for in 2009 were alcohol (only) at 23.1%, alcohol and another drug at 18.3%, marijuana at 17%, heroin at 14.1%, and last, crack at 8.1%.

These rehab statistics show that not only is America becoming more addicted to the one substance that is legal (for those over 21 years of age), but that individuals are also becoming addicted to more than one substance. As far as race goes in the rehab statistics, Caucasian individuals had the most admissions in 2009 accounting for 59.8% of the rehab admissions. 20.9% of admissions were African American, 13.7% of admissions were of Hispanic origin, leaving 5.6% of admissions in the “other” category.

Rehab statistics show that the age group with the most admissions was the 25-29 year old age group accounting for 14.8% of admissions. This age group was closely followed by the 20-24 year old age group accounting for 14.4% of admissions. 12.6% of admissions were in the 40-44 year old age group, 11.7% were in the 35-39 year old age group, 11.5% in the 45-49 year old age group. Then came the 30-34 year old group, 50-59 year old group, 12-17 year old group, 18-19 year old group, 60-64 year old group, and last was the 65 or older group with just 0.6%.
