Response To Intervention

An addicts response to intervention has much to do with the support they receive from family and friends. The road to alcohol and drug recovery is not an easy one. Once someone has developed an emotional, mental, and physical habit, that has lead to an alcohol or drug addiction,  successful recovery requires a dedicated support system of loved ones.

Good Response to Intervention May Be Challenging

One of the main reasons why people turn to drugs and alcohol is to numb the pain of life’s challenge’s. While this is what makes people turn to these substances, the dependence on them happens for a number of reasons.

The physical reasons include the body and mind producing cravings if the substance is withheld. This craving can cause people to feel so ill that they will do anything to feel better. This sick feeling, also called withdrawal symptoms, also makes the person feel sad, lonely, and fearful of the future.

The mental reasons show up after prolonged addiction when the addict begins to feel that their family has given up on them, so their new family becomes the drugs and alcohol abusers they come in contact with. Even though the addict believes this to be true, it usually is not the case, and it is most often the family that arranges an intervention for the individual.

The key is that after the initial intervention, while the person is in recovery, it is important to continue to provide support. This support will help the person feel empowered and to eventually realize that drugs and alcohol are not a substitute for family and strength. Providing this support and encouragement will give you and your loved one the response to intervention you all wish for.
